Education has the power to unlock the potential of millions of girls and boys, but unfortunately too many children are still denied access to quality education.
To put a spotlight on this issue, Global Citizen Canada teamed up last night with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) to host an evening event that brought together artists including the Sam Roberts Band, Members of Parliament, civil society organizations and private sector partners.
The event featured an expert panel that included Julia Gillard, GPE Board Chair, and Alice Albright, GPE CEO (pictured above) and Nesmy Manigat who spoke about the power of education to lift people out of poverty.
Mike, whose Official Opposition file includes Global Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), had the opportunity to speak with Julia and Alice about the importance of ensuring children with disabilities are included in education policy and programming. He also emphasized the need to increase the number of girls in school around the world, and their power to be change agents in their communities.
