Four New Reasons to Celebrate Canada Day Thursday, 29 June 2006

Mike with Jenae and Jaden at the 2005 Canada Day celebration in Mill Woods

Mike is pleased to see the new Conservative Government give ordinary Canadians four new reasons to celebrate on July 1st.  A number of the new government’s initiatives come into effect on Canada Day.   These include,

  • One of the largest tax cuts in the country’s history, when the GST goes from 7 percent down to 6 percent;
  • The start of the Universal Childcare Benefit, which gives $1,200 per year to parents for each child under six to help them cope with the cost of childcare;
  • The beginning of the Canada Employment Credit, which will lower taxes for all working Canadians and help them cover the cost of work related expenses such as uniforms and home computers;
  • A new and comprehensive plan to reduce greenhouse gases.  Starting on Canada Day, the new Conservative Government will provide a non-refundable tax-credit on the cost of transit passes.

Canadians, for the first time in a long time, can also celebrate the fact that we now live in a country that is governed by a Prime Minister who keeps his promises.
Happy Canada Day everyone!
