Since early January, I’ve been holding regular constituent roundtable meetings in our community. Generally attended by ten to twenty constituents, each meeting is designed to facilitate discussion about issues specifically raised by those at the table.
In contrast to a typical town hall meeting, the roundtable, with its smaller group format, allows for greater interaction among the participants. I’ve found these roundtables to be the most effective way for the greatest number of constituents to express their opinions, hear the views of their neighbours, and learn more about what the federal government is doing for Canadians.
While the meetings have no predetermined agenda — topics are chosen by those in attendance — we have seen several recurring themes develop throughout our discussions. Among the most common subjects have been Canada’s role in Afghanistan, the safety of our communities, and the environment.
As your Member of Parliament, these meetings have been invaluable, helping to inform me about the issues most important to the people I represent. At the same time, I’ve been encouraged by the level of public debate between the individuals who come to the meetings, often from different backgrounds and with different points of view.
If you are a constituent, and are interested in attending a roundtable, please contact Adam at 1-613-995-8695 or toll-free at 1-866-670-0966, or call the Constituency Office at 495-2149.
As always, I invite you to contact my office with any other federal questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!
