On November 7, 2008 Mike was sworn in as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, Tony Clement.
The Parliamentary Secretary role is an important one, with responsibility for assisting the Minister with his/her duties including answering questions in Question Period, making public announcements and steering legislation through the parliamentary process. Mike is one of only four incumbent MPs (the only one from Alberta) to have been promoted by the Prime Minister to serve as a Parliamentary Secretary after the October election.
“When Parliament resumes, our government will act decisively to protect Canadian families and businesses during this global storm,” said the Prime Minister. “Serving as a Parliamentary Secretary is a big responsibility, and I have tremendous confidence that this is the right team for the job.”
Mike is excited about this new position and looks forward to the responsibilities and challenges that it will bring.
